The brief
Virtual top-up is a high-frequency, low-margin business. Customers buy data or airtime several times a week, and resellers buy in volume to sell on. Both abandon a platform immediately if a transaction fails or a delivery is slow, because there are dozens of alternatives.
DRCDATA needed a platform that delivers instantly, handles wallet balances reliably, and serves both casual users and resellers from the same system. Payment and delivery integrity matter more than anything visual here: a failed top-up where the wallet was still debited loses a customer permanently.
It also had to work for a northern Nigerian audience, many of whom are more comfortable reading Hausa than English.
What we built
Instant delivery across six service types
Data, airtime, cable subscriptions, utility bills, education pins and wallet funding run through one account, so a customer topping up their phone can pay their electricity bill without switching platforms.
Wallet system with reseller pricing
Users fund a wallet and transact against the balance. Resellers get volume rates, which is what turns occasional buyers into a recurring revenue base.
Transaction integrity
Purchases confirm against the provider before the wallet is debited, so a failed delivery does not leave a customer out of pocket. This is the single thing that determines whether a VTU platform retains users.
Hausa language section
Core service information is presented in Hausa alongside English, reaching customers across northern Nigeria who would otherwise be guessing at the interface.
Direct support channels
WhatsApp, phone and email are surfaced throughout. In VTU a delayed transaction needs a fast human answer, and a support ticket queue loses the customer.
How we worked
Delivered with payment and VTU provider integrations configured, and the client managing pricing and reseller tiers directly.
